# Port your number out of Allo

> Leave with your number: RIO codes, port-out info, and steps

Your number belongs to you. You can port it out of Allo at any time, and Allo charges nothing for it.

<Info>
  Port-out requests must come from the **account owner's email address**. This protects your number against hijacking.
</Info>

## France

French portability normally works by calling 3179 to get your RIO code, but 3179 can't be reached from an Allo number. Instead:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Request your RIO code">
    [Contact support](/en/support/contact) from the account owner's email and ask for the RIO code of the number you want to port. We request it from our carrier and send it to you, usually **within 24 hours**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Give the RIO to your new operator">
    Subscribe with your new operator and provide the RIO code. They handle the transfer and schedule the port date.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Keep your Allo line active">
    Don't cancel your Allo subscription until the port is confirmed complete: a cancelled number can't be ported.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## United States and Canada

<Steps>
  <Step title="Request your port-out info">
    [Contact support](/en/support/contact) from the account owner's email. We provide the information your new carrier needs (account number, and PIN if your account is protected by one).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start the port with your new carrier">
    Submit the port request on their side with the info we provided. No approval is needed from Allo: the port completes carrier-to-carrier.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Keep the number active until completion">
    Keep your Allo subscription active until your new carrier confirms the number is live with them.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Carrier lookup tools won't display "Allo" as the current carrier of your number: Allo operates through carrier partners. That's normal and doesn't affect the port. (The US carrier "ALLO Communications LLC" is an unrelated company.)
</Note>

## Other countries

Porting out numbers from other countries is possible too. [Contact support](/en/support/contact) from the account owner's email with the number and the destination operator, and we'll guide you through the country-specific process.

## After the port

* The number disappears from your Allo account once the port completes
* Your subscription doesn't stop automatically: [cancel it](/en/billing/manage-subscription#cancel-subscription) if you no longer need Allo, or keep it running with your other numbers
* Export anything you need first (recordings, transcripts, contacts): they stay tied to your Allo account, not to the number

## Porting into Allo instead?

See [Port your existing number](/en/phone-numbers/port-existing-number): French, US, and Canadian numbers can be ported directly from the app; other countries via support.
